About

Andy Ward

British. Based in the Czech Republic. The kind of person you'll always find something to talk about with.

My story

I'm from England. I came to the Czech Republic years ago and stayed — Havlíčkův Brod became home. Along the way I learned Czech, started a family, and discovered that I enjoy teaching English more than I expected.

Speaking Czech matters more than you might think. I understand where Czech students make mistakes and, more importantly, why they make them. I know what's confusing about English when you're thinking in Czech. And I can explain it in a way that actually makes sense — sometimes even in Czech, if that helps.

My lessons look more like a conversation than a lecture — we talk, we debate, sometimes we have a laugh. I use textbooks as a tool, not as a bible.

How I teach

We talk

Lessons are primarily in English. The more you speak, the better you get. Grammar comes up when it needs to — not as a subject on its own.

About things you care about

Work, travel, food, sport, whatever. There's no point discussing topics that bore you. When you're interested, you learn faster.

Without the stress

Mistakes happen. That's normal and actually useful — a mistake is the best teacher. No grading, no red pen.

Tailored to you

I don't have a one-size-fits-all system. Some people need conversation, some need exam prep, some need both. I adapt.
